The group of Harlan Thrombey, a rich secret author, goes to his 85th birthday celebration party at his Massachusetts chateau. The following morning, Harlan's maid, Fran, thinks that he is dead with his throat cut. The police trust Harlan's demise to be self-destruction, however, investigator Benoit Blanc is namelessly paid to research. Blanc learns Harlan's associations with his different relatives were stressed: upon the arrival of his passing, Harlan took steps to uncover his child in-law Richard for undermining his little girl Linda, remove his little girl in-law Joni's remittance for taking from him, terminated his child Walt from his distributing organization, and had a squabble with his grandson Ransom.
